Antipodes Art Workshops
Hello! I am Naida, from Antipodes-Art. With 35 years’ experience in the visual arts as a teacher and professional artist, the best thing I have learned over the years is that EVERYONE can learn to share their story through visual art forms. After working with thousands of students I have never come across someone I couldn’t teach.
Antipodes-Art studio sessions are allocated times during the week when I open my space up to interested fellow artists (or soon to be artists).
Have you ever wanted to sign up for a learn to paint workshop but couldn’t make the time commitment?
Are you interested in trying a new art form but don’t know where to start?
Are you proficient in an art form but have hit a creative or skill roadblock?
“I have a solution that will help you save money, time and most importantly, see your art practice improve with visible results in no time.”
Learn at your own pace!
Have you ever been frustrated waiting for classmates to catch up? Alternatively, ever struggled to keep up with the pace of others in a group? Chances are if you’re frustrated or struggling, you probably won’t be able to achieve the desired outcomes at the end of the session anyway. This adds up to further loss of time and money because you’re not getting the results you hoped you were paying for.
At Antipodes-Art studio sessions, we can speed up or slow down the activities depending on your goals and where you’re at.
Choose the sessions you would like to attend. Can’t make it for 2 weeks? No problem, you won’t miss out, just resume when you can.
You’re on your own learning timeline anyway so it doesn’t matter what others are doing.
Every session you attend is all about YOU, tailored to give you great value for your time and money, in other words, a positive return on your investment.
Choose what you want to focus on:
Drawing, Painting, Photography OR Photoshop.
Drawing
Drawing is a foundational skill necessary for all art forms. It is essential for artists to develop and visualise their ideas, understand 3D forms, map out concepts, explore light and tonal values and the list goes on. Novice or pro, the fundamentals of drawing need to be established before artworks in any field can develop.
In addition to basic skills, drawing is also an art form in itself.
There are so many different styles from Realism to Abstract Expressionism as well as almost limitless possibilities in the tools you can use. It is a Pandora's box of prospects, and once you’re in, you may not ever want to get out.
Painting
Learning to Paint is all about colour, texture, and spontaneity.
There is no substitute for getting up close to a painted canvas to find brush strokes, modelling of forms, exquisite and unexpected colour blending and so on.
Just like drawing, painting styles vary greatly and require different skill levels, but all are loads of fun to explore.
Join me as we learn painting techniques while applying them to your specific interests and needs.
Photography
Photography is about understanding light and how to capture it as a moment in time.
Whether you want to use a DSLR or even a fixed lens camera like a Smartphone, the principles of composition, focal length and exposure are the same.
Photographic styles vary from Commercial to Portrait, Landscape, Street and Abstract just to name a few.
Perhaps you have a DSLR that you find too complicated to use and it now lives full time in your cupboard? Let me help you get to know your camera while we work together to develop your photographic skills and ‘eyes’.
Photoshop
Photoshop is an Adobe program that allows artists to not only edit to enhance their photos but to create imagery that is only as limited as their imagination.
Traditional artists use it practically to plan and visualise designs, taking the guesswork out of their final paintings and drawings.
Digital artists combine photoshop tools to blend ideas, images and colours in realistic styles that can often transport the viewer into imaginary ‘worlds’.
Perhaps you have dabbled in Photoshop but found it all too complicated? Allow me to simplify it for you as we unleash your visual imagination.
Choose your package & book your sessions!
Purchase your Drawing, Painting, Photography OR Photoshop package. There are two attendance choices:
in person at my studio or
via Zoom.
Once you have selected and purchased your package, you will receive a confirmation email with a booking code and a link to the scheduling page to redeem your sessions. Book four sessions you want to attend either on site at my studio or via Zoom.
Sessions are purchased in packages of four and designed to run once per week over four weeks. However, they do not need to be used in consecutive weeks. You can choose to attend the sessions and days that suit you, even change the days of the week if you wish; just make it work for you.
Please note: Zoom sessions are designed for non- locals or international participants who are not able to attend the physical studio.
Your confirmation email will also include a link to complete the on-boarding process by telling me about yourself, why you want to learn your chosen art form, existing skills, the topics you’re interested in etc. That way I can get to work designing your learning program.
Timing
Studio sessions run on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for 2 hours from 10-12pm with an option when booking to add an extra hour : 3 hours from 10-1pm, just in case you don't want the fun to end.
Zoom participants can choose from Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon or evening sessions. Please contact me if you need a different timing option due to your time zone.
Each session you book will be followed-up with a confirmation email, just so you know for sure! You will also receive a reminder email one day before your bookings just so you don’t miss out!
Equipment
Get ready!
Each art form has its own list of required equipment you will need to bring to each session.
Drawing and Painting supplies can be easily purchased online or in local stationary or art supply outlets.
Photographers should have access to their own camera and ‘Photoshoppers’ should have a mac computer or iPad with the Adobe subscription in place.
‘Zoomers’ will need a computer or tablet with a camera and have the Zoom app downloaded.
You will receive more information and reminder emails prior to your chosen session to make sure you’re all set.
The Workshop
Sessions Start.
You will be welcomed into in my home studio, or via zoom with only a very small number of other participants (1-3). The mood is warm, relaxed and friendly; a small group of people on a journey to improve their skills in drawing, painting, photography or photoshop.
At the beginning of each session we will discuss your goals, interests, skill levels and the progress you are making.
Grab a tea or coffee, watch demonstrations and practice techniques. Enjoy personalised attention and activities that are tailored exactly to your needs and abilities. You will be amazed at the progress you will make- even after the first session!
Every session will be different depending upon who has booked with you. Perhaps you will work with a photographer or a painter while you learn to draw!
At the end of your session we will review what you’ve covered and you will be given activities to continue to practice in between sessions. YES! There is homework.!
