2021... I'm Back!
After a long break from Social Media in 2021, I’m happy to say I’m back and raring to go! 😀… They say “Absence makes the heart grow fonder”, and yes, I did miss you guys but I certainly haven’t been wasting my time. In fact, I’ve been working on a whole new series of paintings AND Photography. What better way to make use of endless lockdowns, social distancing and general uncertainty right?😵💫
At the end of 2020 I took some time out to reflect on my style, study other artists’ techniques and decide which direction I needed to take my work. I also spent a lot of time designing images, editing and experimenting with different paints, mediums and brushes. I’m happy to report that although nothing is quite finished, I have progressed well on 4 active paintings.
As with my previous work I am still working on the theme of the environment and using the flower as a motif to represent fragility. This new style contrasts realism with expressive, painterly elements representing the tensions between environmental conservation and economic policy.
Promise of the Future Oil on Linen 76 x 101 cm (Work in Progress)
Where Hope Resides Oil on Linen 91 x 122 cm (Work in Progress)
I’m aiming for a sense of beauty- for the environment, hope- for these troubled times and, of course, the elusive WOW factor that takes my work to the next level! Stay tuned for info on availability of these works.
You might already be familiar with my Dys-Tortion Photographic Series.
I have spent several years developing this technique - combining long exposures with a specifically developed light-painting technique to develop delicate colours and a sense of dark mystery. Each shot is composed using a technique that allows me to visually alter some areas of the flower, with limited control. Light painting and the distortion technique are both variable elements that cannot be completely controlled or repeated in subsequent shots, as a result, each image is entirely unique.
There is no post production editing and the total effect is achieved in camera. This is so exciting because, I never know what I’m going to get from the final image. As a result I have progressed the series with 9 new flower groupings.
